No TC lockup
3 years ago I had my trans rebuilt by a atra certified trans shop, was all good nice and strong, no slipping and good firm shifts, then one day it went to limp-home mode and kept blowing trans fuse, took it back to the shop and he found it shorting out in the loom in the tranny, got that fixed and all is good.
Then made a trip to Grand Island NE, about a 3 hour drive one way and all was fine for the trip there, coming back was another story tho got to 680 around Omaha and it just started shifting from OD to 3rd back and forth a few times so I dropped it into 3rd, pulled over let it cool a bit and it started driving fine again, took it back to the shop and I had no lockup at all, he did everything he could externally, new TCC solenoid and PWM solenoid also tried a different valve body, he said the command was there to lockup and the solenoids were firing but it just wasn't locking up.
So he says it could be the seal around the TC or the pump or the TC itself, he looked to see if the TC was blued a sign that it got hot and it wasn't, He said its ok to drive it around in 3rd, in 4th the TC must lockup or it will run hot and you will burn up the 3-4 clutches in the tranny so 1 either the TCC solenoid was bad and I did not notice the TC not locking up at interstate speed and burned the clutches up in the TC, or 2 it was locked up and the clutches burnt up going down the interstate. my questions is why at only 35000 miles would I have problems like this, was it a bum TC? or what

if the solenoid was bad shouldnt it have thrown a code for it. even my 93 has a code stored for bad solenoid but the truck only sees offroad no need for overdrive.
unless you do alot of high driving yeah just keep it in 3rd until you get the problem resolved. if you still have a warranty with the trans place bring it back and let them mess with it

Yeah but they had the dash apart and replaced the multifunction switch while it was down there when they fixed the short and the bulb must not have been seated and when I got it back I didnt notice that the SES never lit up when I keyed on, then he mentioned something to me when my wife took it down for him to test drive it and said the SES light was not on but there were a few codes.... tapped the dash a few times and the SES light came back on, really sucks cuz I could have noticed something if the light came on. No warranty with it no more and I am afraid it will be around a grand to fix it, might as well just drive it around in 3rd, really sucks that this happened
