Default 96 blazer 4.3 dies randomly

Hey mechanics,I"M new to this forums,so searching for my problem is difficult to me. I have allready read similar problems. This blazer runs fine, then suddenly dies. You have to leave the engine off for a few minutes, and then it will crank and run fine again. This problem repeats itself often. It doesn't stumble at all. I'm thinking it might be a crank sensor. Please any input will be welcomed very much. Have a nice day.

It definitely sounds like something electrical.

It is possible that the CKP sensor is at fault as the wiring can easily get damaged when there is a failure in the AIR (air injection reaction) system. More to the point, the wiring can get burnt when the check valves in the AIR system fail.

It is also possible that one or more contacts in the ignition switch are dirty/burnt and are heating up causing random no-contact events which, depending on the circuit affected, could point towards the CKP sensor. The ignition switches on these trucks aren't the greatest. The information I have posted in the link found at the bottom of my signature below doesn't really cover the 96-97 vehicles very well, but does give some indication of what can happen when there is one or more failing contacts in the ignition switch.

Thanks for the info swartlkk. We replaced the crank sensor and that took care of the dying problem. Another problem is the ECM won't send information to the code scanner. That we don't understand. Thanks for any info.

Hi
dont know where to start but we have similar problem. Only started recently. Drives and runs fine, then suddenly dies, can be at any speed, just loses power then dies (BAttery light shows). starts up again straight away, and will idle but when try to gain speed cuts out again. Dont know if coincidence, but runs find when fuel tank full, once starts to get below half and lower does it. Can hear fuel pump running. Dont know much about cars so any help appreciated. Its a 1996 blazer 4wd.
