noise when brake is on? clutch?
Hello Everyone,
I have a 1999 Chevy Blazer 4X4 4 door with an automatic transmission. When I hit the brake and am at a stop or moving slowly I hear a noise like a rattle coming from like the middle of the vehicle. If I put the blazer in park or neutral I don't hear this noise. I am thinking that it is the clutch or something in the clutch area?
Any help would be appreciated!
In college, and cash is short!
Thanks,
Bernie

Could possibly be the torque converter, I would have somebody hold the brakes on while you go under and try to figure out where its coming from. Could maybe be the cat converter as well, but you would probably have other problems as well if it was. I would try to narrow down exactly where the noise is coming from. But automatics dont have a clutch like a manual trans does, it has a torque converter in place of a clutch.

possibly a bad transmission mount.. when in park/neutral there is less of a load on the drivetrain and would have less stress on the mount.. when in drive/reverse it puts more load on it and can cause a rattle/vibration/clunk noise
