NP208 Rear Output Shaft Bearings.
#1
Now that this hase become the daily driver we are steadily working through new issues.
The bearing(s) on the rear output shaft are shot, pretty sure. There is lateral play in the shaft and we've another leaking seal.
My questions are: Is it worth just replacing the two bearings, bushing and seal? Or should I do a complete rebuild?
I can just remove the rear extension case and r&r the bearings and bushing correct?

Any opinions?
Can the entire "rebuild" kit be completed in one day? I do not have a press, vice or puller.

I would do a complete rebuild while you are in there.
What I would recommend is picking up another NP208 and rebuilding that, then just doing the swap when you have the time.

Was thinking along those lines myself. The vibration has caused the u-joints on the rear axle yoke to shift, heavy duty u-joints with no outside clips, and create MORE vibration.
I'm gonna need a dentist soon to replace my fillings.

I have a 86 Blazer with 700R4 and 4WD, i have a problem with the transmission or actually i think it is in the transfer case. I can be traveling along and the transmission seems to go into neautral, i can shift into 4WD and move just a couple feet and then back to 2H and every thing is ok for a short period of time.. Any suggestions on what is causing the problem and how to solve it?

Well, what appeared to be lateral play in the rear output shaft is really end play. I did not have the drive shaft disconnected when I checked the first time.
How much, if any, end play should there be? Okay, .0027" max endplay. How the he double hockey sticks to I measure that?!
We now have another leaking seal. Leaking around the shaft at rubber of the seal. So I know it's not the yoke plug or case/seal housing.
Oh. And there does not seem to be any play in the slip yoke to shaft.
