My oil cooler lines to the radiator started leaking, so I took them off and plugged the holes on the oil filter housing. With that said, should I reduce the amount of oil in the engine since there's no lines or cooler that held extra oil? Did all the 5.7 engines have the oil cooler or was it only an option on certain models? Mine had the cooling lines running to the drivers side of the radiator, and the tranny., lines on the passenger side of radiator. I have a 1993 blazer silverado, 2 door, with factory tow hitch, I just checked the owners manual and it said 5 quart capacity for oil, I thought it held 6 quarts. So never mind, I will not reduce the amount of oil.

If you just pluged the line holes on the filter housing i would think oil is not flowing through the filter - oil flows through the filter to the cooler then back to the engine - I would think by doing it that way you are at least opening a bypass up -not good - the filter housing has to have a loop from one hole to the other of some sort to allow oil to circulate
