First and foremost, I'm sure this has been threaded before, but I'm doing this from my iPod because my computer is down. Searching isn't all that easy from this thing. Anyways, mine are leaking, I've got both sets direct from a dealership. Basically, I was wondering, when changing them does the front diff have to come down? I've had a couple of people tell me that it's impossible to get them changed without dropping the diff or t case. Please shed some light on this for me. The truck is a 95 2 door 4x4 jimmy with the zm6 suspension.

 

well you don't have to drop your front diff, I didn't have to drop mine when i did my oil lines. However dropping it would make the job go so much easier.

 

Thanks. Since you've worked under there before, would you have to drop anything to change the encoder motor? I've got 2 hi 4 lo operation only and i'm 99% sure my encoder motor is messed up. I've got to check and see if there's a DTC 2 code to verify this. If this is the case, is it something that can be changed with out dropping anything? I've crawled under there before, but this is my first 4x4 and I'm not all the familiar with them yet so I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for until I get the new part. Once I get the part I'm usually pretty handy in getting it fixed. I just like to research it a little to find out if there's an easy way to do it. I'm sure you can understand and appreciate that.

 

You can change the front one, the line that goes from the oil filter to the radiator, easily. No need to drop anything except taking out the air box for access. The other connection at the oil filter is easy. I'll take a look up under today (between rain storms) and see how bad the back connector is if the differential is a problem. I have the exact same model Jimmy except 4 door

 

Well, I got the front cooling lines changed. They were the ones that were leaking. The rears look hard if not impossible to change without taking some other stuff off.

 

Not to hijack but considering it was asked. How much of a pain in the butt are the backlines exactly? I got all AN fittings to replace the lines but I agree the back lines look like a mission and a half!

 

not really just use 1/4 in stuff. long extensions help i can do both sets pretty quickly
