Red face oil pressure extremly high

Hi: I have an 89 350 motor that had the oil adapter come loose. It dumped all the oil out of it. I took the adapter off and found that the gasket had broken into pieces. I cleaned all of the gasket out of the adapter housing and inspected the ports that feed into the motor. I replaced the gasket and o-ring along with a new filter. It drove for 100 or so miles before it blew the gasket and sprayed oil past the o-ring, during rush hour of course, I took it apart and replaced the whole ensemble again the pressure starts out fine around 40psi and 50 miles later it did the same thing. But I'm not giving in. What I did do so as not to spray down the garage with oil during testing was to loop a hose on the oil cooling ports and install a tee with a hose and a valve that dumps the oil into my oil fill on the valve cover. Its a 1/2" hose and with the valve wide open it is still producing about 50 psi at fast idle. It will spray if I don't throttle the valve, I have tried using high pressure air and wd 40 to rinse out the port to the engine 6 times now. And still no change Any suggestions would be appreciated. One more thing I noticed on the passage side of the motor the lifters have become a lot noisier.
Thanks

sounds like something is blocked in the motor itself. one of the mains or something. by mains, i mean the mains that feed oil to different parts of the engine, not the mains on the crank. what kind of lifters do you have in the motor? Flat Tappets, or Rollers? if they are rollers, do they have a "captive" strap or an open one?

I'm not sure, they are stock lifters. How do you tell the difference. I had the valve cover off.

I'm wondering how much of the top side I have to remove before I can get at a oil port that I can blow backward on

Check the PVC port on either the TBI or Carburetor. Mine was plugged and I did not have a functioning PVC systems so pressure was running very high until I rebuilt my TBI unit and found that the port was plugged up with carbon.

I think the oil pump has a the relief valve built into it, maybe its plugged/blocked
I suspect it could pump out the sump/ pan faster than it can drain back and cause issues

Thank you for your help mr vls. I read your thread a couple of weeks ago and purchased a new PVC valve and checked the tbi.

Rexazz2 yes I think your right the pump does have a relief valve in it and I believe that opens at 110 psi . The one thing I do know for sure is its not pumping the sump dry I have a clear hose hooked up after the valve and its full .

remember your looking at it at idle
whats happening on the road ?

if the relief valve is jammed what pressure is it capable of ?
