i have 1997 chevy blazer..4.3, 4x4, automatic, V6...almost got 200 thousand on it..original motor and transmission...replaced alot of other things though...started having a rough time to go into reverse and drive, 4 wheel drive is pretty much useless..can feel it kick in but grinds once its pulling, then started lunging during driving, holding gas steady the rpms go up just a tad on its own..feels like it cant get into the next gear, changed the trans fluid and filter, was burnt and had alot of flakes in it...still doin the lunging and stuff...now is overheating, had this happen before changed belt, belt looks shiny again...this belt is only a year old. getting a code number P1870. my transmission is going aint it?...we pretty much do our own mechanic work...i'm not into spending alot more on it...just wondering if its worth trying to fix or huntin a new ride
i notice alot of threads with this code in it now...i shoulda read first...now i see we have a problem. *looking for a car to borrow for work while Christine..our blazer...goes under the knife

Yeah, your transmission is getting ready to go. Metal flakes and burnt fluid are bad. Things will likely only get worse if you do not get it rebuilt or replaced.

having it rebuilt this week. dad wanted me to find a used one but wouldn't it be better to start over than to find another one that has so many miles on it that it'll probably wear out in a little while again?

It all depends on the quality of the rebuild. But I would think a rebuild would be better than a used unless you can find a "lightly" used, low mileage.
