park/neutral switch ?
Hi.
I have a 2001 RHD Blazer, 5 door, 4wd auto and I am having a problem that I hope you can help with.
Sometimes when I try to start the truck no ignition lights come on. No lights (except the battery light), no radio and no fan. The gear change can not be moved from the park position. After a few seconds the radio and the fan will come on, and sometimes this will be followed by the ignition lights after a few more seconds, sometimes this will take a few minutes. I have tried wobbling the gear change, rattling the key in the ignition, turning the ignition off and then on again and again and again, locking and unlocking the car and starting the whole process again. All to no avail.
My first thoughts were the park/ neutral switch. So I disconnected this and shorted it out, the problem remained (thinking about it, if it was the switch I would still get ignition lights, but the engine would not turn over), so I guess this is not the problem.
I have read on this forum of a common problem with the fuel pump (my truck has done 97,000 miles) could this be my problem? and how do I check the pump?
Also, I have read about duff ignition switches, could this be my problem? if so, how do I check it?
Has anyone got any other thoughts on the subject? If you have then please let me know.
Any help will be great, but it may take me a while to reply as I live in the UK and our time is different to yours, but I will do my best.
many thanks, Mick.

park/neutral switch
anyone?

The park/neutral switch has nothing to do with ignition functions aside from inhibiting start when out of park or neutral. It will have no impact on the dash lights, fan, etc. That is all in the ignition switch (see link in my signature).

Whoa.
I have read your article once now, but that isn't enough so I am going back to it after a coffee. All this time I have thought the ignition switch was just somewhere to hang my key whilst I was driving, its quite a clever little thing though really.
This is the second time that you have helped me with a problem. Thanks very much, I do appreciate it.
