Default question about lubrication of transfercase.

So,most of us know i removed all of my 4x4. all i have left is the tcase which i plan on keeping to avoid buying another trans and doing torsion cross member surgery.

I know the trans shaft runs through the tcase. Does the atf in the tcase lube anything specifically in the case other then the chain and bearings? Im not very knowledgeable when it comes to tcases. thanks

P.s. am i able to gut the tcase and slide the shaft back into the trans? How easy would it be? np231c case.
