Default Question on Gaskets Needed

Alright long story short my tranny took a crap last thursday and its being rebuilt as we speak. The guy doing it worked for GM for 35 years and knows his stuff and needless to say it will have a shift kit in it. The blazer is an 01 4x4 2 door and I'm wondering what seals I will need as far as putting it back together.

I know there is an o-ring that goes from the tranny to the "transfercase adapter" (dont know what thats called) and the previous owners put some type of rtv to seal the transfercase to the adapter. Is that normal? or is there a seal that needs to go in there? Also what is the transfercase supposed to be sealed with? By the looks of it, it was split at one time and they also used RTV on that too.

Basically while everything is out, I want to make sure that all the seals are good to go so any that are removed I would like to replace if it needs to be.

Thanks

Nick

After digging some more after searching I found that there is supposed to be a paper gasket between adapter and transfercase and just that o-ring between tranny and adapter. Is the gasket still paper or have they came out with a better gasket set-up?

While i'm on the topic of the transfercase, is there any maintanence needed for it while its out? Or should I leave it alone since it is working?

Unless you're looking for trouble, or just want to spend money you might as well just leave the T.C. alone.

I used RTV for the adaptor->T.C. because who wants to bench-press a transfer case and worry about a gasket when putting everything together? I've had good luck with RTV and gaskets both in different applications, so IMO it's all personal preference.

Well after i got the tranny yesterday the guy who rebuilt it gave me a new o ring and the paper gasket that goes with it. I think with a couple of hands i can get this in no problem

thanks for the reply
