Question on my 4l60e rebuild
Been working on my sister’s 2000 Blazer 2wd with a bad sun shell in the 4l60e. The spines were stripped out. Sister 3rd owner and the niece 2nd as she bought it used from the dealer. Transmission was rebuild when the niece owned it not too many miles ago. After taking it apart and finding the bad sun shell everything else (with my untrained eyes) looked in very good condition. Not sure if the sun shell was replaced previously but it had a stamped part number of TY 070401 on it. I replaced it with “The Beast” along with new seals and frictions but reused the steels.
The 4th accumulator had also been installed with the spring into the case 1st then the piston …is this correct as I seen pictures with the piston 1st then spring. There was also a brass thing that fell out when I removed the valve body…I think it was inserted into the larger filter screen on the separator plate. Don't see it pictured anywhere else.
Have only the valve body left to install but have a question before I do that. At this point is the output shaft suppose to be able to rotate in both direction? I can turn it counter clock-wise but not clock-wise, looking at it from the rear. I’m thinking how do we get neutral if we needed to roll the truck in both directions.
Thanks for any help, Al

UPDATE:
Transmission reassembled and installed onto the truck. Started up, no leaks, took it for a short drive and now we have reverse back. Took me a long while to finish for many reasons but glad this project is done with. Now I have a 4l60e under my belt along with a Ford C4 that I rebuild 30years ago. Time to collect from my sister lol.
Lots of info and downloads on the web helped with the repair. Found out why some parts are installed the way they were. The hardest was getting the transmission off. Lots to take off 1st, but the install went much faster. Took some photos of tools/setups I used in the rebuild.
If you are a true Do-It-Yourselfer and have the time I say go for it and have fun. Looking back it wasn’t all that hard to do.

I have no idea what that spring could have been for. I've done a few and that does not look familiar.
Coming up with ways to compress the pistons are the hardest part about a rebuild IMO.
Good job and glad it works again. I'd have to look at my guide but the only problem you'd have with the spring in the wrong position is the lack of an accumulator which would cause a hard shift. Sorry I didn't see this post in the past or I could have had an answer for you.
