Default radiator

have had a leak for about a week now, bought some stuff to try and fix it, like a liquid additive, and it worked on one side, and made the otherside leak worse
so i bought a new radiator for 140 bucks and installed it
has anyone else had this problem?
i have a 2001 4dr 4x4
with 103 thousand miles on it

Default RE: radiator

Leaks often happen when radiators are not cleaned as a required maintenance. Junk that builds up on the radiator will cause it to rot and open up a leak.

With the newer radiators having plastic side tanks, these can sometimes open up leaks. This often happens quickly, not something that creeps up after time. A traumatic incident (crash, going into the ditch, etc) can cause a leak though. Even some rough driving with harsh bumps can sometimes open up a leak.

Stinks when it happens, but glad you got it fixed. I have never been a proponent of the stop leak products. If there is a problem, I would much rather fix the problem than put a band-aid on it. But there are some products that do work; Bar's Leak & the pellets from the dealer both meet the manufacturer's requirements which are put in place to ensure that the product does not clog the system once it's in there.
