Default Rebuilding a tranny

Hey guys i am thinking about rebuilding my first tranny. I need all your help to tell me the things i hsould and shouldnt get. I know that i have to get a donor from the junk yard(or i wont be able to drive). Now is there a special type a case that i should look for? i have a 98 4x4 with a 4l60e. Should i go for broke and get a $600 monster rebuild kit or spend $150-200 on a mster kit. Any help you guys can give me would be very much appreciated. Thanks all

The rebuild kits are mostly seals, o-rings, clutches and steels. Not sure what the differance between the Monster or Master kit. You will need a puller to pull the front pump assy out of the bell housing. A good service manual for the transmission if you can find one. Compressed air helps with doing air checks when complete. If you follow the dissassembly/assembly you should have no problem. What you may not realize is that any mechanical part that is worn or broken is not provided in the kit. I have done three transmissions a while back and all 3 were torque flights (Chrysler). Assembling the pistons/0-rings is tight fit. Transmission jelly (Thick transmission fluid helps with assy).
