Default replaced spider and everything got worse!

Night before last i was on my home from work in my 95 blazer 4.3 i picked up about two weeks ago, everything had been great after i got it out of the shop shortly after i bought it, fixed the center link and shoes. no biggy, got a decent truck for the 2 grand i had in it. untill on this day the check engine light lit and the motor started running rough. it ran a little rough before but i figure it was just an older truck no worries, it ran strong when i was moving just not when stopped. So once i got home researched the issues with the spider getting clogged or the fuel lines leaking etc and found nothing wrong so i swapped the spider which for the first 20 mins or so seemed to fix it, check engine light went away and i thought i was good. Then it got bad, the RPMs will drop to an almost stall then jump back up to idle when ever i stop and continue it until i begin to move again. And when its running down the road it dosent feel strong. Also smells really gassy out the exhaust, so i figured maybe i had a leak with the spider or the hoses so i pulled everything a part again just to find everything seems to be in working order. i was planning on checking the plugs next week as well as the distributor. but i didnt have any problems till i swapped the spider, any ideas?

When you did the spider, did you do the "nut kit" as well (the fuel lines that attach to the spider (rubber lines))

When you do the spider, you should usually do the nut kit, removing them from the spider usually damages them, should both be done at the same time, even if they are relatively new.

Have you done a fuel pressure and leak down test?

Get the pressure checked before anything else. Must hit at least 60,and hold above 55. If it hits then falls to its face its with the pump or spider/"nut kit" If it hits and holds good for 10 min then you have another issues

ill try to get a picture later once i get back to working on her, but there is a vacuum tube on top of the plenum that runs down to the passenger side of the motor to the valve covers and the hose has a metal base. Anyone what what that is, mine seems to be sitting in there just so, not really mounted or held in place, it just pulls right out, that cant be right. can it?
