Default RE: Sat for 10 years!

Well, I got the new fuel pump in, blew out the fuel line, hooked the electrical connections up, and re-installed the gas tank.

However, I was not able to get the old fuel filter off. I was able to disconnect the fuel lines going in and out of the filter but for the life of me, I wasn't able to break loose the nut holding the filter to the bracket!!! Very cramped area... I could barely get a wrench around the nut and then there wasn't any room to turn the wrench!!

So, I decided to see if it would at least crank with the old fuel filter on, now that the new fuel pump was installed. I hooked the gas lines back up to the old filter and put a couple of gallons of gas in the tank, turned the key. No luck it wouldn't start.

I can spray a little start fluid down into the throttle body, and it will turn over for a split second. So I know it's getting spark.

When I turn the ignition on, all I can hear is the relay making a buzzing noise.

So I think the problem is one of two things, or maybe both. 1 - The fuel filter is clogged and no fuel can get through. 2 - Power isn't getting to the fuel pump and it is either a problem with the relay switch or wiring on the fuel sending unit that the fuel pump plugs into.

To rule out the fuel pump, I was thinking that I could disconnect the fuel line going into the filter and turn the ignition on. If the fuel pump is working properly, fuel should squirt out, right?

Thoughts, ideas...????

Thanks for your help.

yes you are right you can just disconnet the line going into the filter and just crank it, see if you get any coming out. How bout getting the air hose and blow out the filter with it in the truck?

Ah! Good idea with the air hose and the filter. I didn't think of that. I'll try it tomorrow after church.

or you could disconnect the fuel line at the carb to see if your getting fuel to the carb.

Did you reactach the ground wire on the tank?
