Default Serp Belt

When I bought my truck from the dealer (58k) on the motor it needed a new Serp Belt. They replaced it for free as it was squeaking. I was curious if this was a common problem because I am getting another squeak back. Also from day 1 it sounds like I have a blower cause when I'm driving it whines like one. Any answers would be helpful.

Thanks in advanced.

Chris

It is common due to the poor quality of belts available. Most are made of too hard of a rubber compound for the smooth pulleys that are used on the front of these trucks. It is also possible that the tensioner has gotten weak, but I would replace the belt again first. Goodyear Gatorbacks have worked good when I have used them. My Bravada had one on for over two years until I sold the truck.

The blower sound is probably the fan clutch. With the engine cold and off, try to spin the fan by hand. It should spin pretty freely. If the fan clutch has failed, you'll barely be able to spin the fan.

I agree with Swart on the belt to use and wolf on the noise of the fan... Also have you noticed what temp the truck is running at?? does it have a guage or light?make sure its not overheating when you hear that blower sound..

One thing to add if you take the belt off try spinning all your pulleys to check that one of them doesnt have a bad bearing. I thought it was my belt squeaking turned out that my alternator has a bad rear bearing.
