Default shifter loose, wont engage

'98 blazer ls. The other day I went to put my truck into park and it wouldn't. The shifter moves very loosely up and down an is not shifting. any ideas what happened? I have no experience with messing with the steering column.

Sounds like you might have broken the shift cable that runs from the steering column down to the transmission.

Check out the link in my sig for details on the shifter cable and how to go about replacing it. Its not hard and should only take about an hour tops!
