Slow acceleration

I just bought a 1997 Blazer with 106K miles. I知 using this as a secondary vehicle. I got a great deal on it (hoping so) but I知 having issues when trying to accelerate. It barley moves from a stopping position to about 15mph. After I get past 15mph there are no acceleration issues. Does anyone have any ideas what this might be?? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your transmission isn't starting out in the proper gear. Does it accelerate normally if you pull it down into L1 or L2?

Could be as simple as a bad solenoid in the transmission.

It works if I put it in L1. No problems. So I'm guessing I need to check the solenoid?
Another question. Will driving it starting off in L1 cause more damage?

I don't think it will. I make sure all the gears in my tranny get used every once in a while. sometimes, I manually shift my when i'm goin down the road (more fun for me). I'm pretty sure it doesn't, but I would still get the solenoid fixed soon.
my 2 cents.

So... I haven't had a chance to take it to the shop yet. And I really haven't been driving it at all since I don't know what is exactly wrong with it. But something to add. If I put it in L1 it doesn’t always start off in gear 1. It sometimes starts off in L2. Could this still be the solenoid? I'm just hoping it isn’t the transmission. Any real way to tell without taking it in? Thanks for the help!

It shouldn't start off in 2nd when you are in L1. I'll have to see if there is anything about this in my ATSG manual when I get a chance.
