Default Speedometer cable

I have a 1984 S-10 blazer 2.8L V6. I am wondering if it is pretty simple to replace the speedometer cable. I looked in the online Chiltons manual and it shows 3 different routing diagrams. When I looked under the vehicle at my trans it looked like there was an electrical connector going to it. Is that for the speedo or should there be an actual cable coming from the speedo down to the trans? If so where would it be located? Thank you in advance for any help or input you may have. Also I went to Autozone, they looked up the part and for ten dollars I got an actual cable. Not electrical.

The speedo cable will be on the transfer case, dang near under the drivers seat. It will run along the bottom of the floor pan, up the firewall, and into the cab under/behind the brake booster. The hardest part of swapping it is getting the gauge cluster out.

Default Speedometer Cable

Well I am back from Florida now. Went to see my girlfriend for a little while. I am going to check the speedo cable tomorrow. A little Thanksgiving Day project. I do have another question. Will the new speedometer cable already be lubricated? If not what lubricant should be used?

The one I got wasn't lubricated or if it was it was just barely. I used white lithium grease to lube mine.

Its waterproof and wears for awhile. I took the cable out of the sheath, sprayed it down and made sure it was spread evenly. Then put it back in the sheath and installed it in the truck. I wanna say I remember the new cable coming with some little pack of grease but it wasn't enough to do much with is why I used what I did.

Cool man thank you. Mine did not come with any type of grease and I have not checked the cable yet. I did locate the old one in the truck. It is located under the brake booster but goes down to the tranny. Should be an easy switch. I will let you know how it goes. Once again thank you.

Hey Neo. I switched it out today. You were right it goes to the transfer case, and the hardest part was getting the instrument panel back in. Thank you again for your help.
