If that's what you think, you REALLY ought to do some asking around for other service references.
Not saying it's not the spider or something in the plenum. Just sort of doesnt fit.
And it's a 95 so it might be different than later one but why dont you go to youtube and search for video on changing it in a 95 and see what's all involved.
I had a friend who is ASE certified master mechanic all his life. Took several cars to him and watched him work on another of his friends car when it wouldn't start after a heavy rain.
- I'd had exactly the same problem in the same series car. Cowl leak and water filled base-up relay. But the ECM gets wet too, so a good chance to charge for replacing it. which he did.
Why I decided to do all my own work when possible, take it to another shop if not.. and let my friend fix flats for me. He never lacked for business though.

I totally hear you man. I don't trust any of those guys either, but I am/was on a time crunch because I couldn't take my motorcycle to work, and needed something that would get me there. I never smelled any fuel leaks at all (That's a classic sign of that CFI going bad), and the guy just said they saw it leaking when he opened it up......but because of my situation,....I was hard pressed to do what I did. I jiggled as much stuff as I possibly could, and still nothing. It seems to only have those "hiccups" at a certain gas pedal position. Idle...ok, higher revs....ok......but accelerate slowly and she starts to stumble until you get another position going. Also....she is fine when she is cold,...it's when she heats up that it starts becoming an issue. I haven't had her die on me yet since that first experience.....but I also haven't been driving her around. I just don't have the space or tools now. I found it better to just cut my losses and move on. Every other shop would keep charging me a "diagnnostic" fee and that will add up quick to something I might not even be able to fix. Not throwing out a code also puts me in the dark with this thing. Shame because that truck has A LOT of new parts in her and some major work done to her already. If you are near the Charlotte NC area and want to pick up a good truck cheap...let me know. She will go on Craig's list today.
