Default Steel clutch pedal pins for 98+ to replace the plastic

I'm 5spd swapping my new ZR2 and took the whole dash out of the donor to get the pedal...and the pedal pins are hollow plastic! So I made solid steel pins on a lathe that still use a spring to pop in place like stock.

Replacing the plastic junk with steel also means you can chisel them out of the donor in about 30sec instead of pulling the whole dash out. Makes your junkyard trip a lot shorter. And a sawzall to the fat brake pedal means the dash can stay in the auto being swapped.

I put a video up that shows how. I planned on it being a how-to video that anyone could replicate with a cut off shoulder bolt or something, but the dimensions pretty much required the lathe work. I'm selling a kit if anyone wants a set with everything needed. The parts are 25, so $69 will cover shipping and make me a little for my time.

Another mechanic playing engineer...Always goes badly..

YOU DEFEATED A VERY IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE.

That pin is hollow plastic for a REASON. So your feet/ legs arent destroyed by the pedal in an accident.

If yoy want to do someting DANGEROUS like that its your loss but dont sell this idiocy to others.

Signed, electronic/ mech/ automotive engineer.

You've got to be kidding, right? So GM was very concerned about the clutch pedal injuring someone in a crash, but not the brake pedal? The brake pedal uses a steel bolt. Probably because it would be very dangerous for someone to lose the brakes when the plastic pedal pivots failed. It would also be a bummer to completely lose clutch function in traffic...from those plastic pins failing. 4 of the 5 sets I've sold now are from the brittle plastic pins failing due to age and normal wear and tear. Obviously a design flaw by GM and not a feature.

Update: I've sold 40 sets of these, so I guess there was a bigger need than I anticipated. Happy to help solve a common problem. The 5spd swap community is also alive and well and I've sold about 10 clutch pedals. I'm making them from scratch now...selling more than I can find. lol
