Default stuck in 4 low ?

Started this morning realizing the blazer was stuck in 4 wheel drive low. What the heck ? 4 wheel drive has never worked before. The sensor on the transfer case had been disconnected. Ended up driving 20 miles to work at 40 mph because I couldnt get it back into 2 wheel drive. Has this ever happened to anyone ? Not looking to fix 4 wheel drive, just dont want to be stuck in low gear anymore ! Any sugestions ?

Default I cant win.

Was able to get back into 2 wheel drive, but guess what ? Now there is an awful grinding/ squeaking sound coming from the passenger side. Transfer case is very hot to the touch. Is there any way to dissengage the transfer case and make it a 2 wheel drive blazer permanently ? P.S thinking about getting a Honda Civic. . .

erm - sounds like it might need fluid.... is there any in it? and um - distance driving in 4lo can definitely damage a transfer case... your engine must've been SCREAMING to get 40mph out of it....

I'd start with the fluid if you're handy - the civic if you're not....
