96, 4.3L, 189,000mi. I had a P0340 and p0300 so I replaced the Camshaft Position Sensor, Cap and rotor only to find that it would not start. I later found that I had messed up the timing myself. When I removed the CPS, I loosened it then rotated the crank to line up the removal slot and ended up jamming the CPS between the reluctor ring in the distributor shaft and the distributor case. The rub is that the reluctor ring is pressed on the shaft and not keyed, splined or pinned - so it will spin on the shaft with enough force. I found TDC on the balancer, twisted the reluctor ring back and it started right up. Hope this saves someone the day I wasted under the hood.

 

Glad you got it fixed, but you should never jam anything together unless it is meant for a press fit! There is enough room to remove and install the CMP sensor if the distributor is turned to the proper position.
