Could it be the gas? Iknow when i buy prem gas 93 octane, iget around 20-22 mpg , get better mpg when i get gas at a [name brand] staion.

Also , if you buy gas that is cooler you get better [BTU] or more energy.

in Canada they ajust the price by what the temp it is sold at.

i think gas should be sold at like 66* ,but never is, That's how the oil co 's rip you off and you don't know it You get less energy with it hot.

Less energy == less MPG

What axles does this thing have? Some of the s10 bodies came with 3.08 ratio - I think most came 3.42 or 3.73(towing package) - the 3.08 would get better mileage - What's your engine RPM at say 60 MPH? Mine sits around 1800 RPM (3.42 axles)

I finally started checking my MPG and got 17-19MPG this past week. I do mostly city as well, but longer trips then normally (55mph or under).

po tore out the spid so I'm not sure on the rear axle ratio. I'm at about 2000 at 75 mph coming back from seattle to spokane wa. I filled up with crappy 87 from Maverik, so it's not premo gasoline.

Averaged 24 on the trip to Belfair and back (600 miles) with a bunch of city driving around in tacoma

Hmm yeah if you are actually at 2000 at 75 then you have a gear ratio lower than 3.41 (i think its 3.10) I have a 3.73 and 31 inch tires and a PCM tune (that drops the rpms in OD) and im at 2000 rpm doing 65

so i think you have the 3.10 differential which if im not mistaken is the GU5 code.

you can also call the dealer and give them your vin number to find out.

HA! Awesome....
I've been getting like 16-17 MPG... strangely the last time I went off-roading I nearly doubled my mileage; I'm guessing it because almost the entire way down I was sitting in first low-range just letting the engine keep me....
I have the 3.43 gear ratio and I just replaced my cat and O2, so I am curious to see what my mileage does now...

I forgot to mention; my step-dad has an '02 half-ton silverado with (I think) the 5.4 liter V8... and he claims to get 32 MPG.. since we live in Canada and everything is in liters and kilometers, I've just always figured his math is off somewhere between K's/L to MPG

That would be the day when a gas engine truck got 32 mpg haha. Maybe he has a few stickers on his truck. I hear that adds about 100 hp as well as a good 15 or 20 mpg.
