top bell housing bolts on 98 blazer

Default top bell housing bolts on 98 blazer

how do i get to the top bell housing bolts on a 98 blazer? im swapping the motor out but cant get to these bolts. i dropped the cross member thinking it would lower it enough but no luck. can i get to them from the top?

Yes, you can get them from the top with a box end wrench. It's tight but it can be done.

I go from the back.
You need about 3' of extensions between your rachet and wobble socket. Shine a light up there so you can see, and feed the socket from the back of the tranny to the front over the tranny. Lowering the tranny will help a bunch. You will need the clearance to get the bolt past the body flange. Once you get the tranny out, beat that flange out of the way for when you put it together.

Going from teh top is a real pain in the ****. Doable but an exercise in abuse.

Get a wobble socket, a u-joint on a socket is too long, you need a wobble socket.
