Default Towing my Blazer

I hope someone can set me straight. I have the ZR2 with the auto four wheel drive. Can it be towed Flat, four down? I've been told if I do , to unhook the negative on the battery. Can I tow it on the dolly I have at this time? If so, do I still Unhook the battery? Which way is the easiest on the Blazer? I'm all ears. Not convinced the advice I've got is correct. Towing a vehicle is new to me. Have towed lots of RV's with trucks, but now have a motorhome.

Do you still have your owner's manual? It should say in there. I'd look in mine, but my Blazer is a couple of hundred miles away from me right now.

Yes I have my manual, but it doesn't answer my question about using a car dolly with this type of transfer case. Can I tow this four wheel drive on a dolly, in two wheel drive. Facing front of Blazer on the dolly. Blazer will be in auto NEUTRAL. I don't want to mess up my transmission. I would like to do some short trips this summer before taking it to Florida this winter.

My understanding of the Auto 4wd transfer case is that putting the transfer case into neutral allows towing of it with all four wheels on the road such as when towed behind a motorhome. I would guess that then towing the Blazer is possible with a dolly supporting the front tires and the rear ones on the ground.

If it were mine, I think I would put the back wheels on the dolly and leave it in 2WD so the front driveshaft wasn't spinning. That's probably the safest way, IMO.

If you're using a car dolly or flat towing, just to be safe I'd simply disconnect the driveshaft. Make sure the truck is in 2wd mode, then it's just 4 bolts to disconnect the U-joint from the axle, a couple wraps of tape around the bearing caps so they can't fall off, and a good ratchet strap wrapped around the drive shaft to suspend it and hold it into the transfer case. The axle can then spin freely with no worries about your transmission.

I'm not sure about that Tom. I'd be worried about the force applied against the steering lock pin towing the vehicle backwards for any significant distance. I may be wrong though.
