It is twice as long as the 4.3L! you would be much better to do a v8 swap than to attempt to install an inline 6 engine.

I wouldn't call the 270HP/275FT-LB from the 4.2L "a little extra hp". Not to mention that it is lighter than the 4.3L v6. Still does not make it worth it though. LOL

like previously stated, your much better off doing a 350 swap its less work, more power, and more cost effective.

I never knew that! Always thought the TrailBlazer had the same V6 Vortec motor.

Here is a way to see how much work is ahead of you. Measure your engine compartment from the firewall to the radiator core support and then from the hood line down to the front axle or crossmember (depending on 2wd or 4wd). The 4200 is a TALL and LONG motor. I thought I had a dimensional print for the 4200 somewhere, but cannot find it right now. I can take the tape measure to my Rainier though.

I have a friend who has one of those newer trailblazers and his waterpump went out. He told me that you had to take the whole front end off to change the water pump - YUCK!

That's like changing a motor out in a passenger van! lol

I don't think that would even be a realistic idea. V8 for sure!
