It might. Mine shifts a bit rough and will shift at higher RPMs especially when it is cold. But use good fluid like MAXLIFE and I don't think you will have any issues. Put a deep pan and a new deep pan filter and that will make it take longer to heat up the fluid if you are doing stuff that will momentarily heat up the fluid like climbing a hill or spinning your wheels (but don't let it do that for more than a couple seconds). Deep pans don't really cool the fluid (well maybe if it is in the airflow under the truck, but not by much), it just gives you a reserve 2 quarts and makes it take longer to heat the fluid up.

I got a cooler, deep pan and MAXLIFE fluid on my truck. I do alot of in town, high speed and mountain driving and it still runs okay, although the shift quality can be better. The fluid still looks like new even with a little dust in it. Mine runs cool enough I can pull over after climbing a hill or driving it at 65, touch the cooler and not get burned. Don't use Lucas Trans Fix unless you really need it since I used it for almost 2 years and found a leak. I changed the fluid and only put 8oz (I am gradually removing it from the trans by using half the amount each time so the seals don't fail). It stopped after changing the fluid. My deep pan has a drain plug and I only have the filter changed every 30k miles by a professional, but I exchange the fluid via the magnetic drain plug every 10-15k miles. Should make it last longer, but at less expense since I do it myself for the periodic changes and only have the filter done every 2 years. Changing it is as easy as doing the oil.

Now I don't remember the part number on mine, but the rating is 14,400 BTU. Check my album for the photo of it installed.
