Default trans cooler? Weight limit for towing?

hey everyone, I have a few questions regaurding towing etc. What is the factory towing limit for a '95 blazer 4x4 with a 4.3L motor? Anyone have anything they tow regularly without any trouble? I have a freshly rebuilt trans, and I don't want to screw it up, so I wanted to check with you guys to see what you think is safe vs. what is factory. Also, I was thinking of putting in a trans. cooler with an electric fan to help it last a bit longer and especially for off-road use when it is getting a serious workout but little air to cool it. Any thoughts? An interesting story about mty blazer involving towing; Before I owned it and my brother had it, we were towing a seadoo home from tenn. to Cincy OH, and it must have been about 95 degrees that day, up and down hills. Well, every 20 minutes or so, a puff of smoke would come out from under the car and our friend behind us would tell to us to pull over. We would get over, smell something burning, pop the hood and get a bit of smoke, but no flames. We kept driving and it would keep happening. Finally when we pulled off and into a gas station, we popped the hood and there were flames in the engine compartment. I quickly put it out with a bottle of 7-up. Upon further inspection, we noticed that the plug wires were on fire, but not burned completely through. Then we noticed that someone previous to my brother had routed a trans. fluid overflow line up the back side of the motor and wiretied it to the trans. fill tube. Apparantly, as the trans was getting really hot, it was belching fluid out which would fall onto the manifold, ignite, and began to burn the plug wires. At any rate, that was severl years ago, a motor and trans. ago, but I am still hesitant about towing with it, especially with my new trans. Any thoughts on towing, trans. cooler etc. would be helpful

Tow rating on a 4.3L blazer is like 5000 lbs or something like that, but I would seriously not go anywhere near that number. I towed my project car (3200 lbs) for an hour and I don't even think that is a good weight for towing over distances. I also towed a trailer with 2 jet skis on it ( about 2,500 lbs) for a 3 hour trip and while the blazer(did have trannycooler)did ok I did still have some overheating problems wich I tracked down to a bad thermostat. So next year I will probably try that one out again.

It all depends on how long and how much weight you are planning on towing. Could you tow 4-5,000 lbs over a fairly short distance (10-20 min) I am sure you could and it would be fine. But I would not want to do it for any lengthy period of time.

I just had my transmission rebuilt with a shift kit. I bumper pull a 5x8 trailer with my ATV on it that comes in at about 650 lbs. Even before transmission trouble I had no problem pulling it. The bumper is rated for 3500 lbs and has the wiring behind the bumper.

i wouldnt tow much more then 2500 lbs i mean it can do more then that but its a midsize and you have to consider stopping and keeping the trans cool and everyhthing like that. i didnt really like towing much in my blazer but it got the small jobs done easy thats forsure i would just be careful when towing alot of weight always make sure to keep a safe following distance so you can stop and make sure to hold 3rd gear longer then normal if you have an auto you want to minimize shifting and keep the rpms up so you dont put heat in the tranny
