Default Trans Fluid/Filter Change 4L60E Quick Tip

Hey Guys and Gals,

I recently changed my transmission fluid/filter along with shift solenoids in my 1993 S10 Blazer and wanted to save others some headache if they run into this problem. Once I began unbolting the transmission pan it was clear the exhaust and trans cross member were going to make access difficult to a couple bolts. I did manage to get them all out with out removing either of them though. Once unbolted the pan was captured by the cross member and exhaust and unable to drop free (gotta love engineers). In order to free the pan I had to drop the crossmember while supporting the trans/transfer case with a jack. Even this alone wouldn't free the pan, but after hearing nightmares of others having to drop the exhaust and seeing what it would take to remove it, I figured I could MacGyver it and still get the pan out. You don't need a ton of clearance to get the pan out so I hooked a ratchet strap from the exhaust to the front frame horn and was able to gain enough clearance to drop the pan free. I was able to get it off with one strap but go ahead and put two straps on it as I had to add a second one to get the pan back on. I hope this helps some of you. I wish I had more pictures but I was covered in transmission fluid. Hopefully you can see what I did from the picture I took. Good luck to anyone trying this.

Best,

Patrick

This is what I did as well, only me and my buddy both pushed on the exhaust at the same time.
