98 ZR2 - Wanting to do a trans fluid change within the next few weeks and their are two filter/gasket options [Shallow & deep pans]. How can i tell which pan I have? Is their a RPO code for this or do the pans look different? Does anybody know the dimensions of both so that I can compare? Thanks

 

this should help, you should have a shallow pan. the truck on here has a deep pan.

Actually, I would bet you have the deep pan, but as other threads on here show, it is likely climate dependent.

The first link shows a drain plug (which i do not have) and that is a deep pan. and your pan comparison pic swartlkk shows a drain plug in the deep pan. so i must have a shallow pan because i don't have a drain plug correct?

 

Doesn't matter if you have a drain plug or not. GM wasn't very good on putting drain plugs on all there pans. Anyways the way to tell, the shallow pan is totally flat across the whole bottom of the pan. The deep pan is deeper toward the front and last 3" are little shallower then the front part. This is not counting the little round hole looking thing where a drain plug is suppose to go.

There is no drain plug in the picture I showed, just a recessed circle in the pan where GM may or may not have put a drain plug. All deep pans have that recess.
