my 97blazer has been shifting a bit hard from first to second and it kinda jolts a bit. its an auto trans and is a 4.3L. is this normal wear or is it a bigger problem?

 

bigger problem.... mine did that after 15 mins of driving, i had to put a rebuild in, my guy said it does that when the clutchs are worn out rebuild 1400 dollars i also have 261,000 miles too. good luck, oh... i drive the truck about another 15,000 more miles after it started doing that, and then 2nd gear went out

 

Add a bottle of Lucas Tranny Additive & I'll bet you get plenty of more good use out of it.

 

it might not be your trans at all. trans performance is based on engine performance. your puter reads a ton of info and adjusts the engine and trans to run together, if you have engine performance problems you will have tranny problems. your problem souns typical for an engine performance problem. when waas the last time you had your oil changed?

There's a quite a few different things this could be steming from. The first thing you should do is to check for any trouble codes. Auto Zone, or just about any auto parts store will do this for free. From there you can get better advice as to what is the problem. My truck was shifting harshly from 1-2 like that as well. I had the trouble codes pulled and it turned out to be the code "P1870 - Transmission component slipping". I did some research and found out this is often caused by a faulty solenoid in the Valve Body Control. Tons of information on the forum once you have a Code to direct your search. With the information I found on the forum here I did the repair myself and it shifts nice and smooth now. Good luck.
