Default transmission

my 95 blazer has a hard shift issue into 2nd gear I replaced the valve body and 1-2 accumulator and the 3-4 accumulator my question is does the piston go towards the spacer plate or towards the housing? same for the 3-4 my book shows it differently than it is now

1-2 accumulator, spring in housing first then the piston. 3-4 I put the spring in the case then the piston. this gives it the firmest 3-4 feel you can get without any further modifications. basically both pistons end up close to separator plate.

There are 2 springs under the 1-2 piston if I pulled the inner spring out would it not hit so hard?
