Default Transmission Fluid Leak

Hi Guys,
New to this site, and recently had a problem with my 88 K5 Blazer. I recently bought the truck for the sole purpose of plowing my driveway. It had a recently rebuilt transmission according to the seller. After two rough days of plowing, I went to start the Blazer this morning. While it was warming up, I noticed red transmission fluid leaking from the front universal joint (thats where it was falling from, not sure where the actual leak is). It was leaking a pretty good amount, so I immediately shut the truck off. Once off, the leak immediately slowed down and soon stopped all together. The truck isn't registered or insured, so bringing it to a mechanic would be tricky and costly. Any advice on what could've caused this would be great. Is it ok to run the truck like this so long as I check and fill the fluid each time?
Thanks!

No replies, but I'll post what I found out in case it can help someone else down the road. It turns out that one of the transmission cooler lines cracked right above the U joint. When the truck was turned on, it would leak right onto the U joint and drip from there.
