Default Transmission fluid leak and Engine Fire

Hello,

So I had a small fire under the hood the other day towards the end of a 100-150K drive.

The Vehicle: 2005 Chevy Blazer 2DR SUV V6 4.3L

It seems I have transmission fluid coming out of the dipstick vent at high temperatures that is hitting the exhaust manifold and burning. After an initial freakout and purchasing a fire extinguisher, the initial diagnosis is a known problem with the Hydra-Matic 4T65-E transmission and a weak gasket GM fitted it with. The car drives and shifts fine, no other faults and is in great shape.

I have found a GM bulletin (PDF attached) that outlines the potential fault and the fix. Its looking like either a full rebuild with a new gasket or a whole new refurbished transmission unit. Both of which are pricey solutions. I am certainly not equipped to do this myself.

My question is, has anyone on this forum encountered this problem before?
Any thoughts on the diagnosis?

Follow up questions would be:
Where is the best place to source a new/used transmission in the Pacific North West?

Thank you for any help or insight you can provide
