Transmission fluid leaking
My 97 LT is leaking transmission fluid from the lower right quadrant of the mating surface between the transfer case and the adapter. Is it normal for fluid to be in this section? Is it possible to disconnect the transfer case, slide it back, clean and replace the sealant between them, and then reassemble? Right now it's leaking at a rate of about 1-2 ounces every 24 hours. I keep a check on it and refill as necessary.
It is normal for fluid to be in that section since the input seal on the front of the transfer case is the only thing separating the transmission fluid from the transfer case fluid. It is not normal for there to be a leak there. If this is where it is leaking, you'll need to drop the transfer case, clean up the mating faces, then reseal the connection with some Ultra Black RTV.
I figured it would need to be resealed. I was just wondering if I needed to completely drop the TC or if I could just slide it back enough for access to clean the surfaces and reapply sealant.
I have the same problem with my blazer 2001 LT, start liking fluid from the same place after my wife crash the blazer so my question is do you have to take the transmission pan to drain the transmission fluid or is other way to do it... thanks Sergio.
