Transmission help P1870 P1860 P1864
To start this off im not much of a mechanic but decided to try my hand at fixing this issue instead of spending hundreds or thousands of dollars at a shop, might be heading that way.
I've got a 96 blazer LS 4x4 190xxx km. Initally it came up with P1870 code, it was revving slighly higher then usually shifting gears but not much but the check engine light had come on and found that code. Being "proactive" and not just watching the light i jumped onto the forums to find the issue. Read a bunch of stuff of it being an genertic code of the transmission slipping, dove deeper and read something about replacing the TCC valve to correct this issue. So got the TCC repalcement valve from fitzall and after many hours got that out without taking the valve body off. Decided to change my a and b shift solenoids at the same time as one of them was quite loose and figured this was also an issue to address while the valve body was exposed.
Put it all back together and broke one of the shift solenoids (didnt know at the time) but on test drive didnt have first or second gear and would start in third, so dropped the pan again and replaced broken solenoid. Put it all back together and test drive 2 didnt go well either. immeditally got check engine light along with all these codes. P0753 P0758 P1860 P1864 P1886. decided to clear the codes hoping that would reset any issues with the new solenoids talking to the computer if thats a thing. Now only P1860 and P1864 are showing but have no fourth gear and is still a bit slow starting from a stop while in OD and D.
From what i read P1860 code is simply any sort of issue with the TCC PWM solenoid. That may include issues with the circuit wiring or connections or problems with the solenoid itself being faulty. And P1864 i have no idea what it is, some say its the ignition switch others say its the TCC solenoid and that is what's inhibiting my fourth gear.
Before i bring it to a mechanic next week looking for some insight into this issue. Should i replace my TCC solenoid or could it be my wiring harness? Or just bite the bullet and take it to a shop.
