Unhappy Transmission problem or something else?

I'm going to try and be a clear as possible but it is kind of hard to explain. I have a 95 s10 blazer that has ALOT of miles on it, I replaced the engine when I got the truck. The new engine was out of my step dads astro van, but had like 250,000 miles on it but its been running pretty well. But I am worried about the transmission. When I am accelerating it seems to be a little bit sluggish in I guess what would be first and second gear, between 0-35 mph. Bare with me I don't know a whole lot about engines and transmissons. So if I accelerate 'normally' from a dead stop the rpms go up to about 2500 or alittle over then it shifts, but if I accelerate quickly it shifts like it should...most of the time. Is this normal? It just doesn't feel right. I LOVE my truck I just hope the tranny isn't going I just don't have the money to fix it.

What RPMs is it shifting at when you say "it shifts like it should"? At lower throttle angles, the transmission will shift sooner (lower RPM) than at higher throttle angles. This is perfectly normal.

Okay I tested it this morning and when I accelerate quickly it shifts anywhere between 2000 and 2500 rpms. But it shifts alot smoother. I'm starting to think its just the way I drive. Lol
