Default transmission to transfer case leak

Well, I put the transfer case back in a did not get a good seal.

When there is a leak between the transmission and the transfer case is the fluid coming from the transmission or from the transfer case?

I am trying to decide if I can drive the vehicle (minimally) with this leak or if I will end up driving with the transfer case low on oil - which would be very bad.

that fluid will be coming from the trans.

get a gasket in there, or just use some blue RTV.

If you use RTV, make sure to get the sealing surfaces REALLY clean and free of all trans fluid and oil.

The gasket leaked the first time around and then I cleaned it and used RTV. Noticed the leak last night and am not sure how bad it is yet or where it is coming from.

I put the transfer case from a 96 into a 98 - mating surfaces looked the same when I inspected. Does anyone know of any differences?

A simple job made really hard by GM because they but the bolts in from the wrong direction from a service viewpoint!

I have the same leak on mine and im planning on pulling mine back out and running studs on them like my jeep transfer case has that way all i have to do is take a nut off and then it will pop off since my leaks cause my bottem bolt striped out the threads so my only solution i feel is tap and helicoil a stud in there for all 5 of them.

Good idea. Make sure you round the ends or you'll probably end up with threads that are damaged and will not accept a nut.
