transmission trouble

I've got a 2002 4 wheel drive blazer. The reverse quit working today suddenly, but all forward gears work.

Any suggestions as to what the trouble might be?

If it quit suddenly with no warning it's probably a broken spline on the reaction sun shell, which means an overhaul.
