Default Transmission won’t shift past 2nd!

I have a 96 Blazer 4.3 4x4. My problem is that the transmission won’t shift past 2nd. I ran an OBD2 scanner on it earlier and 3 codes popped up. P0300, P0440 and P1440. Nothing saying anytime about the transmission. I’ve tried to start in 1st then manually shift to then shift to drive but nothing. RPMs just runs high. With the research I’ve done, I should try replacing the solenoids and the filter. I just wanted to get a couple opinions here! P.s. I don’t know much about the rig. I recently purchased from a friend. I plan to make it an off-road rig but street legal. Anyways, thanks for any help!

I just checked the fluid. It looks like dark red tint.

Hopefully Transman shows up, he knows quite a bit about these transmissions

Not going to be shift solenoids unfortunately. Common issue with a failed 3-4 clutches. Going to need replaced or rebuilt.
Good luck

Dang that sucks. How difficult is it to rebuild one? I can’t afford to buy a rebuilt one right now. And I skeptical of buying a used one from a pull a part. Are there any step by step tutorials?

I'm curious as well. Mine isn't a daily driver, so when the trans craps the bed, I'm gonna try my hand at rebuilding it myself

There is a lot of great info posted including video links, photos from members, and recently someone even posted a link to a manual for rebuilding the 4L60E.... That and do what Transman says!

My Tranny kicked the bucket this past summer, lost high gear, couldn't go faster than like 35/40 mph... I lucked out and found a used 1 at a local junk yard for $300 bucks with a 30 day warranty. It is doing just fine so far It actually came out of a 4x4 S10 pickup truck...

I’m in the same boat. Bought mine as an off-road project rig.

mines going the same thing. I’m prepared to spend maybe $500 for a used one. But I would hate for it to go out in 6 months. But I’ll do what I gotta do.
