JTR has a manual dedicated to S10 V6 to V8 engine swap. There are a few chapters that are posted on line and there is a lot to consider even though the engine and trans will bolt up. I would purchase this manual and review it thourghly prior to attempting if I was seriously considering a V6 to V8 Swap.
Now, I did replace my 4.3L engine by myself with no help at all in my S15 Jimmy. Including removing/installing the hood. Used the engine hoist and a strap to lift and swing the hood out of the way when the bolts were removed. I used long bolts to aid in mating the engine and trans. back together. I took mejust under two weeks to remove, transfer, install, and test and fix any problems that arose. I plan on pulling this engine later this year to replace the oil pan gasket that is torn.
