You should be able to get the distributor in correctly and get rid of the P1345. It's probably only off one tooth, one direction or the other. Labor to check & adjust camshaft retard should be under 1 hour. Yes, it requires a high end scan tool capable of accessing the camshaft retard streaming data. The el cheapo $500 jobbies cant access it.

Took it to a mechanic today and he said "you re getting a code here that means you need a new positiin sensor." I told him that I got a p1345 and that I thought it just needed timed correctly. He told me that wasnt the case and that it would be $120 for the new position sensor along with labor to get it fixed. Is what he said true? He seems kind of shady, but can a p1345 be because of a faulty position sensor? He also said "these 4.3's are known to have this issue" which I've never heard anything of until today.

DTC's NEVER tell you that a part needs to be replaced. The P1345 means the camshaft to crankshaft correlation is incorrect. In other words, the distributor is not meshed correctly with the camshaft. If the camshaft position sensor had a problem, you would get a DTC relating to the camshaft position sensor or its circuits. Find a new shop.... SOON.

That's what I thought. I told him I would get back to him later. I talked to some friends and i guess he isn't a very reliable mechanic. I was wondering why he wouldn't let me see the scan tool. I paid him $25 to lie to me..

The dealer will have the Tech2 scan tool, (GM factory dealer issue). Whether they have a technician that knows how to read it and do the adjustment is another question. Just because it's a dealer, is no guarantee. Good luck!
