Water pump replacement?
I just foundout my water pump is bad and it's leaking on my 96 blazer I ordered the part picking it up tomorrow. My question is how hard is it and does any one have a good video tut they recommend? I helped replace my brothers water pump two times on his ford focus but never did one on a suv. Thanks Brandon

im not sure if that one has a threaded on fan, or a bolt on. either way, you have to remove the fan BEFORE you take the belt off. if its a bolt on, then at the very least, break all 4 of the nuts loose. then you can pull the belt and spin the fan to get to the rest of them. if its threaded then you leave the belt on until the fan is out of the truck. makes life easier. once you get the fan undone from the pulley, remove the top radiator housing/fan shroud and pull both pieces, fan & shroud, out of the car together. then its just the 4 bolts that hold the pump on and the lower hose. make sure that you either drain the radiator or have something to catch the fluid in. scrap off the old gaskets off of the block. make sure that you get all of it, you dont want to get everything filled up and realize that you missed something. then, check the bolts on the back of the water pump and give the thing a coat of paint so that it doesnt rust so fast. us a little Gasket-s-inch,, and bang it all back together. shouldnt take more that a couple of hours taking your time and doing everything with care.
if you live in a snowy area, us some penetrating oil on the fan bolts/nuts and on the water pump bolts too.

I did something similar when I took my fan off to convert to an e-fan set up. I loosend one of the nuts just enogh to wedge a wrench between that and the another nut so I could use the wrench to hold the pulley while I took the fan off. I wish it was like my 92 k1500, the bolt on fans are so much easier.

i think that you can get one from the parts store... just borrow it for a few mins. most of the time its just a deposit. but i see what you are saying. i hate to spend money on tools sometimes, especially the ones that only get used once in a great while. but sometimes, its SOOO worth the money.
