Default whats the best coolant these days

I've been searching posts all day, and cant find a good answer. What is the best coolant for my 96 jimmy. Dexcool, or Prestone any color? All of the research is pretty old. Is Dexcool still crap? Any reason I should not use Prestone extended life? According to the label, its pretty much the same stuff.

It's basically a toss up between prestone and dexcool. If you want to switch over you need to flush the cooling system. And don't mix the two.

I already flushed it, and I'm at the point where I need to decide. I hestate to put the Dexcool back in, unless somehow it has improved over the past few years. I'm tempted to go with the Prestone even though its not recommended by GM. Does the Prestone sludge up like the Dex? Any other advantages/disadvantages???

You'reopening up a can of worms here, some say its fine (like me), some hate it, and some don't know what it is. There is a long thread on here discussing the Dexcool debate in great detail. I don't remember the name or exactly what was said. There was some good information, some heated debates, and some incompetent posts if I remember correctly. Its an interesting (although long) read and can help you. I don't mind Dexcool, haven't had a problem yet. I think the evidence pointed in Dexcools favor after awhile but I can't be certain until I reread the thread. Ill see if I can dig it up.

I changed over to Amsoil Coolant. Not Cheap but I believe in this company.

I changed over to an all aluminum radiator and put the Amsoil Coolant into it
about a year ago. Only time will tell. Its been a year with no problems so far.

Propylene Glycol Antifreeze and Engine Coolant Product Code: ANT1G-EA

Super long life fluid - 750,000 miles/7 Years of service in over-the-road trucks & 250,000 mile/7-Year service life in light-truck and auto applications. Essentially nontoxic & biodegradable. Superior performance in all climates. Contains corrosion inhibitors & anti-foam agents.

It all come s down to what you believe and what is in your pocket as far as money goes.

I like the part about being Nontoxic and biodegradable.

Your Choice.
