Where is the PCV Valve?

Hiya, all!
Just bought a 1997 S-10 pick-up 4WD. I also bought a Haynes manual to see if I could find out how to fix a problem but I ran into a snag: I can't find the PCV Valve!
The manual shows pics of 3 engines and none of them look like mine. I know mine's a 4.3 and it says Vortec on the air cleaner cover. I thought the valve would be located on the right side (passenger side) of the engine and I pulled a plastic or rubber tube out of the rocker cover but there was nothing in it that even looked like a PCV valve. Would the valve still be on the cover after I pulled off the hose or would it be on the end of the hose? Maybe I'm not even looking in the right spot? This is just behind the alternator.
Any help here would be hot.
Thanks
