Ok , so my rebuild is almost to the end, and I think I have everything figured out except the timing. When we replaced the timing chain, we moved the motor around while the dist. was already out. As of now, the number 1 and 4 cylinder are at TDC with number 4 on the compression stroke (or so the Haynes manual says) the mark on the harmonic balancer is lined up with the mark on the outside of the timing cover, so Im just trying to figure out where the rotor needs to be. Also, since This had been apart do I need to do a crank relearn? And is this something that I can do or only GM? Thanks for any help

And you are driving...?? Vehicle info is necessary to properly answer the question.

Also, does anyone have information on the crank relearn? The crank sensor was removed from the old timing cover and put into the new one, and the crank moved during that time to align all the timing marks

You have to use a full feature scan tool to do the CKP relearn. You also should set the CMP retard when installing the distributor which requires a full feature scan tool as well.

That was id hoped to not hear. So this has to be done? And is the blazer driveable to the dealership or do I need to push it up onto a trailer?

I called the dealer in Marion, AR and asked how much to relearn my crank position sensor and he a says he never heard of any such thing. Gives you confidence. I drive it a little like it is but I have no idle and you have to left foot the brake. Of course the idiot lights are on. I may try to talk to his boss.

Would the crank re learn be needed on my 95 blazer with w code 4.3 with cpi fuel system? I am just putting the engine back together now after replacing all gaskets and seals and timing cover.
Thanks.
Carl.
