1970 K5 Blazer wont shift into park. Help!
Hey everyone. Just inherited a sweet K5 from my mom. She has had it since I was 3, I am now 30. It has been taken care of it's whole life. She was the second owner. She hasn't been driving it too much over the last few years because she's getting too old. Needless to say this fine piece of machinery is now mine. I have been driving it everyday for a week and it runs and sounds so good. This morning after driving to work it wouldn't shift back into park. It's shifting fine otherwise. When I got back in to come home it shifted into park. After driving it again tonight it's back to not wanting to park. Any thoughts??

Are the gears lined up inside<I mean is D and the needle that indicates it correct? You have a mechanical linkage you might need to adjust it.Its pretty simple to do.You have a rod that slides through a hole on another rod then a bolt to tighten it down.

Open the hood and start the engine. Watch the engine while it's running. Pt it in drive and plant your left foot HARD on the brake. Now give it some throttle. See if the engine pulls up on the left side. You might have a bad motor mount and the engine has dropped and is binding the shifter.

Thanks fellas
Thank you to both of you for replying. I do know that the motor mounts are not in good shape. It has been doing fine today. Have the day off from work tomorrow. I'm going to see what I can find. She needs a little lovin.

Don't forget to check the rear mount too. I'm working on a '55 Ford for a friend and the shifter kept binding. The engine mounts are new but cheapies and the right one has collapsed.
