1990 Chevy v10 / K5 - 4x4 auto hub can't remove? Release pins won't release.
Uncertain what to do. How to get 4x4 auto hubs to remove. Got all removed except, two pinch-pins inside 4x4 auto hub won't release. Then I can get onto the center bolt to remove it. Also, any idea the size of that center bolt in the auto hub assembly? Can't find a video showing how to release them. Typically, videos are on other years or manual hubs. Anyone can assist me with this? Thank you, Mi
Yes, you have to pinch (or something) two flat-pin-like things. Have spent an hour trying to pinch them together. There is very little room. One pinched, the other slips out / off. I angle it slightly as well. But, not much room to work with. So, I guess my two questions are :
1) How can I release these two pinch pins to allow me to access and then remove large nut inside?
2) Any idea what size the single nut is inside the auto 4x4. Uncertain of size.
Thank you very much for any assistance you may have. I look up this but seems only other years or not automatic 4x4 is manual locks. I also followed the SEE HERE link to the CK Network forums. I even registered. Says that description or photos are no longer there. Darn. Just fyi. I tried.
Respectfully,
Mi

Use a pair of needle-nose pliers and grab one of those pins, push it toward the center (axle shaft), then pull it out of the groove. You should be able to kind of "spiral" the snap ring out, if that makes sense. Also, push the inner hub assembly inward (slide it on the shaft). It has a spring behind it that pushes it against that snap ring and kind of locks it in.
I think you're going to need a special spanner socket to get the nuts off, but it's been a long time since I've messed with auto hubs, so I don't remember for sure.
